Top Five Wednesday: Spring Reads

Happy first day of Spring everyone!

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme created by Lainey from gingerreadslainey and now hosted by Sam from ThoughtsOnTomes. You can find out more at Godreads group.

This week’s theme is ‘Spring Reads’ so today I’ll be writing about the five books at the top of my tbr this spring.

Spring isn’t my favourite season (summer is) but I love it because of all the pretty flowers that come out and all the colours that appear after the bleakness of winter.

I’m not a seasonal reader, what I read depends on my mood so the books I’m about to mention are just books I think would really interest me and that I want to read soon.

(1) The Tiger at Midnight by Swati Teerdhala

I received an e-arc via Edelweiss of this book and I’m so excited to read it! It’s based on ancient Indian history and Hindu mythology which sounds fascinating and just generally the premise sounds amazing.

(2) Rosewater by Tade Thompson

I’ve recently added this to my tbr and it’s different to what I would usually read but it just seems as if it will be really intriguing. When I was reading the plot summary I just saw the words, ‘mysterious alien biodome’ and decided I wanted to read it. I’m always drawn to slightly weird or whimsical sounding books. I have no idea why (it’s probably a reflection of my personality).

(3) Smoke in the Sun by Renée Ahdieh

I read Flame in the Mist ages ago and I have yet to read the sequel even though I really want to. This spring, I want to fix that.

(4) The Wicked King by Holly Black

I LOVED The Cruel Prince so obviously I wanted to read The Wicked King as soon as possible. However, I got caught up reading other books and I didn’t get round to it. Hopefully, I’ll get round to it soon!

(5) Vicious by V.E Schwab

I wasn’t planning on reading Vicious but then I decided to read it for the Popsugar Reading Challenge as one of the prompts is, ‘a book about someone with a superpower’. I’ve read another series by V.E Schwab and I loved it so hopefully Vicious will be the same.

What are your spring reads? Let me know in the comments!

Top Five Wednesday: Characters that Embody my Hogwarts House

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme created by Lainey from gingerreadslainey and now hosted by Sam from ThoughtsOnTomes. You can find out more at Godreads group.

This week’s theme is ‘characters that embody your Hogwarts house’ and seeing as I’m a proud Ravenclaw, I’ll be writing about the characters I think would be fellow Ravenclaws.

(1) Lazlo Strange (Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor)

Lazlo is definitely a Ravenclaw! He’s obsessed about books and reading and he taught himself a language that no one else knew from books and ancient receipts.

(2) Celaena and Dorian (Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas)

Both Celaena and Dorian are bookworms and they are really smart so I think they would probably be Ravenclaws although Celaena could also be a Gryffindor.

(3) Nikolai, David and Nadia (Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo)

David, Nadia and Nikolai are nerds and are always inventing things so I think they’d end up in Ravenclaw.

(4) Kitay (The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang)

Kitay is so smart and he even has a photographic memory (which is something I wish I had). He’d be in Ravenclaw for sure!

(5) Baru (The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson)

Baru is really clever but she’s also a bit scary… I’d be scared to be in the same house as her. She could be in Ravenclaw but she could also be a Slytherin.

I ended up with more than five characters but oh well. What’s your Hogwarts house? Which book characters embody it? Let me know in the comments!
